Other Dogs’ Crap

2009/05/28

I really hate my neighborhood. There are a lot of people around here with dogs, but only half of them pick up their dogs’ shit. I notice it a lot more because I clean up after Walter. I see crap on the sidewalks, people’s lawns, and even next to city trash cans. These dogs shit right next to a trash can, but their owners can’t be bothered. I see that, and I wonder if I’m stupid for carrying crap in a sandwich bag for a block or two.

I haven’t been so careful not to step on dog shit since I was a kid. And now, the danger is Walter trying to eat it. Most of the time, he’ll sniff it and move on right away. But sometimes, he puts it in his mouth and eats it. It doesn’t happen too often because I call or pull him away from it.

Yesterday, he got some dried crap in his mouth and started to eat it. I heard the crunching. Yuck. Usually, it’s too late if I already hear him chewing, but I got him in time. This was one of the sickest things I’ve had to do, though I’m sure there’ll be sicker things later. I had to pry open his mouth, gently so he won’t bite me, and let the dried up crap fall out. Gross, like he was crapping out of his mouth.
