I ran out of Orijen today. I still have a 75% full bag of TOTW and another of the B&F. I’m probably going to throw away the B&F someday, but will see how Walter likes going back to TOTW for a while. If he’s an ass (picky eater), I’ll pick up another bag of Orijen.
Every morning, I open that bag and if I mistakenly take too deep a breath while standing over it, I’ll get to the verge of vomiting because it smells so strong. It doesn’t exactly stink, but it’s not good either. It’s one of those scents that you want to keep sniffing even though it’s unpleasant. It’s comparable to smelling something like durian. It’s not good or bad, just distinct.
I’ve been meaning to do a trial of either raw or home cooked meals for Walter, but I’d like to use up his dry food first. It’s not like I’m giving him Ol Roy, so I don’t feel guilty about feeding him kibble. Plus I’m not sure which to try. I’ve read two more books on dog nutrition, and they contradict each other. One says raw is the way to go, while the other says the risks outweigh the benefits. Also, the thought of buying animal products at the market bothers me. I realize kibble has animal protein in it, but having to buy actual meats is foreign to me now.
